For this assignment, we are to describe the procedures and activities we will plan for the first day of school with our students. We are to describe what we will introduce to the students, what concepts we will covet, and our rationale for each. Our assignment will consist of an outline card for Mr. Blanco, arranging the room in the age appropriate manner, preparing name cards and placing them for five students, preparing an attendance and lunch chart, greeting the students upon entering the door, decorating the door, showing students to their seat, providing a bell ringer, discussing attendance and lunch count, introducing ourselves, introducing classroom rules, rewards and consequences, and engaging with the students in a small activity. The duration of this assignment should be about 15 minutes.
My first day of school will begin with me greeting my students as they come through the door. They will autograph our front door sign. Their names will be on their desks so that they know where to sit. Once class starts I will welcome everyone and start the bell ringer. Once I explain the bell ringer, we will do lunch. We then will discuss our answers to the bell ringer. Next, we will go over the rules, consequences and rewards. Last, they each will get a t-shirt shaped piece of card stock. They will draw me a picture of their summer. Once they finish, we will discuss and hang them on our bulletin board.
