For this assignment, we are to describe how we will make accommodations for the diverse students in our classroom. We are to describe how we will handle the difficult students in our classroom also.
In order to accommodate diverse students in the classroom, you need to have effective communication and collaboration with the student. I will work with the student to find a common goal. We can then use something like a communication summary sheet so myself, the student and parent are on the same page. This will include monitoring and assessments. I will form a partnership if the student needs aide, even co-teach.
I will adapt how I need to for students with hearing, physical or mental handicaps. I would need to adapt the environment, materials, and instruction. I would learn about the students disability and what I need to do to help make sure that the student gets the same education as the rest of the class. I would post where it would be visible to all if there was any type of food allergies with any of my students.
In order to accommodate the difficult students in the classroom, I will establish a positive classroom atmosphere, post and discuss classroom rules, praise positive behavior and ignore inappropriate behavior, move about the classroom, make direct appeals, avoid letting student argue with me, and validate their feelings. Doing all of these things will help them maintain good behavior management and classroom behavior. We will also work on self-monitoring to allow the student to become more aware and learn to control those behaviors.
