INTRODUCTORY INFORMATION

For this assignment, we were to identify our classroom management philosophy. We are to tell if it will be teacher-directed, student-centered, or a collaborative effort? We were to discuss what management theorist influenced and how we will use their theory to manage and discipline in our classroom.

As a teacher, i feel you need to maintain student learning and behaviors. In order to do so, I feel the classroom should be a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment. It should also be well-organized and managed.
To help with this, on the first day I will introduce myself and each student will do the same. Talking about each others likes, dislikes, and interests will help the students feel valued. I will treat them all fair and equal. They will know that communication is the key. I will listen to each student and remain patient to help them feel comfortable.
The classroom should be decorated with color and many visual reminders. The rules should be presented the first day and kept consistent throughout the year. The consequences and rewards are posted too. This will help the students to feel comfortable. Having a daily routine and knowing what is expected makes for a much smoother day. It will leave room for more learning time.
I will provide the students with daily assignments to keep down confusion. We will also have a homework and take-home note folder. This will keep down confusion and help with communication. To keep the students from being bored, I will keep the lessons going and have other activities planned in case a student needs something to do while others finish.
My strategies are influenced by many of the theorists. I like Skinner's theory of rewards and consequences, this works for many students. I also like, Harry Wong's theory, Glasser's theory of students reflecting on their own behavior, Gordon's theory of training systems to help improve relations with one another, and Canter's theory of communicating expectations an expecting compliance.
